Working together to heal, grow and accomplish goals
Giving back through life-changing experiences.
Giving back through life-changing experiences.
Youth today are dealing with unprecedented mental health needs that schools and districts do not have the capacity to address. We aim to support youth on multiple levels by providing them a safe, inclusive space where they can access appropriate supports and find a deeper sense of belonging.
To provide a comprehensive wellness center for teens and young adults that supports each person’s mental and social emotional health. In turn, this will help foster stronger and more resilient individuals who are ready to succeed in school and in their personal lives. We hope to partner with local schools and communities for full wraparound supports.
Our mission is to empower students and young adults between the ages of 15 to 23 in predominantly BIPOC communities and inner city schools in making their own path in life. Our wellness center will house multiple layers of programming that focus on mental health supports, movement, skill building among other services. Each young adult will work with a specialist to find the best way possible to make it their way.
Mission Statement
MIYO is here to give you the space and voice to find what works best to support you, inspire you, help you heal and continue to grow into the person you want to be.
The pandemic highlighted the fact that students need more supports than schools and districts are designed to offer, especially in historically marginalized communities. After 17 years of teaching and being exposed to brilliant and talented educators, the realization struck that teachers are limited in how they can support young adults. Students need more social and emotional supports and need to learn new coping mechanisms to address the trauma they’ve endured. Clearly, this social crisis cannot fall solely on teachers’ shoulders, on a system that was never designed to meet the varied needs of young adults today. It also cannot be ignored. This realization is the catalyst for MIYO, an oasis where young adults can access free mental health services, learn coping skills, and have a place that is theirs to decompress in healthy ways, by learning what works best for them.
Welcome to the MIYO oasis. The Oasis is a wellness center that is an escape from traditional societal expectations placed on young adults; a safe place to find themselves, who they want to be, and pathways to get there. Our programming focuses on improved mental health, planning for a productive and successful future, and movement. Supports include accessing mental health supports, developing life skills, college and career planning including internships and apprenticeships. We will do this by creating individualized plans and offering coaching that will focus on the development of coping techniques such as finding service providers, yoga, basketball, meditation, gardening, painting, etc. Everything we do will assist young adults in exploring life to help them find their unique voice and path.
We offer a wide range of services and activities at MIYO to help guide you through your journey of life that cover three major buckets: mental health supports, outdoor/lifestyle and coping skills, and social/life skills, all of which help you create a healthy future starting now.
