Over the past 17 years Michelle has worked in the field of education and although there have been drastic changes to the system of education, there is a lot that remains the same. The hardest part of this realization for her is witnessing how much students need additional social and emotional supports and there not being enough time, money and resources in the school districts for these necessities. For Michelle these are not just if we can we should ideas for a budget, they are the must haves for all  school. This was made even more clear after COVID and the traumas, pain and difficulties students were coming in with. However, we all kept moving forward and not knowing how to pivot either she kept moving forward, but feeling like she was risking and leaving far to many and to much back. This is where her start with MIYO began. One of her former students happened to start working at the school and her and a few other former students who also happened to work there helped to remind Michelle that this is not what she got in education for and that as the future of the school and hopefully MIYO these young ladies needed to be heard, seen and respected just like the students in her classroom. It was time to find the ways to make you g people feel heard, help them on their own paths and find what is right for them. With 16 years of AVID (Advancement Via Indvidual Determination) a college prep course to help

guide young people on a path that makes sense for them, or answer questions about how to get there, she is ready and willing to make sure that no matter which direction they go that they feel prepared. Michelle will help to connect them with the right people at MIYO and support them as they find what fits them best.
